Background

Anne Abernathy is a 6 time Winter Olympic Athlete in the sport of luge. She is the oldest woman to compete in the Winter Olympic Games and the first to qualify for 6 appearances in any of the Winter Olympics.

She became known as "Grandma Luge", a nickname she was affectionately given by fellow athletes. In her last Olympic appearance in 2006, she became the first woman over 50 to qualify for the Winter Games at the age of 53.

Upon qualifying in archery for the Summer Olympics in Rio 2016 she will be competing at the age of 63.

Just a side note... the oldest woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal is Eliza Pollock (US) in archery in 1904. Her age? 63
