Paul Ranheim (NHL)
Co-Founder, PG Key, LLC

Paul Ranheim was born in St. Louis, MO., but grew up in Edina, MN., where he learned to ice skate at age three and  played organized hockey by the time he was five.  He captained his high school hockey team and led them to the 1984 Minnesota State Championship.  That same year, Paul was drafted in the second round by the NHL’s Calgary Flames.  He attended the University of Wisconsin and played four years for the Badgers earning WCHA All-Academic Team and NCAA All-American Team honors along the way.  He remains today one of Wisconsin’s top ten all time career goal scorers. In 1986 during his sophomore year at Wisconsin,  Paul played for Team USA at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Hamilton, Ontario, leading the team in scoring and helping win the first ever medal (Bronze) for USA in that tournament.

Paul’s professional career began in 1988 with the Calgary Flames minor league team in Salt Lake City, UT.  He was named the IHL’s rookie of the year and set a single season record for goals scored with 68. He went on to play fifteen years in the National Hockey League with the Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, and Phoenix Coyotes.  On May 6, 2003, Paul played in his 1000th career NHL game, becoming only the 188th player in NHL history to do so.  He still holds an NHL record with Doug Gilmour for the fastest two shorthanded goals by players on one team – 4 seconds apart. Paul played for Team USA in three World Championships during his career – 1990, 1992, and 1997.

During his professional hockey career, Paul was also active in charity work and became an Honorary Chair for the 65 Roses Club in Calgary, Alberta which raised money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. He was a team representative for the NHLPA from 1990-1994. Paul retired from the NHL in 2003 and moved to Tucson, AZ. with his wife Kathy, and two daughters.

Paul is co-founder of PG Key, LLC., www.pgkey.com a technology company based in Tucson, AZ.  The flagship consumer product is PG Key, an easy to use device which empowers parents to protect their children online.  PG Key is an easy to use, yet comprehensive solution for fighting online dangers.  It is a key which simply plugs into a USB port on the family computer and enables 10 powerful, parental control technologies.
