Stephen D. Wilson is a Partner at Preti Flaherty, where he practices with the firm's Litigation, Intellectual Property,
Entertainment & Sports Law, Business Law, and Securities practice groups, and serves on the firm's Recruitment Committee.
Utilizing the resources of the firm, he counsels and represents businesses and individuals in a variety of areas, including
litigation, alternative dispute resolution, intellectual property, entertainment and sports law, technology, business law, director
and officer liability, securities, products liability, product recalls, consumer rights, insurance, construction law, landlord/tenant
law, and real estate law.
Steve's broad-based litigation and appellate experience includes successful representation of clients in numerous state and
federal courts. He has served as lead counsel, local counsel, and counsel pro hac vice in numerous cases and alternative
dispute resolution proceedings, including mediation, arbitration, and judicial settlement conferences. He has advised and
assisted clients in connection with a variety of intellectual property, sports law, and entertainment law matters, including
copyright filings, trademark and service mark registrations, domain name disputes, patent infringement, trade secrets, unfair
competition, false advertising, unfair and deceptive trade practices, intellectual property portfolios, publicity rights, privacy
rights, noncompete agreements, nondisclosure agreements, IP licensing agreements, compulsory licenses, performance
contract disputes, agent disputes, endorsement agreements, TTAB proceedings, and ICANN proceedings.
In connection with his securities practice, Steve has represented clients in litigation, arbitration, and other matters involving
shareholder disputes, broker/dealer liability, employment termination matters, noncompete agreements, shareholder
derivative litigation, officer and director liability, majority shareholder liability, investor complaints, and other securities issues.
Steve is licensed to practice in both Maine and Massachusetts, and is admitted before the United States District Court for the
District of Maine, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the
First Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He has served as a faculty member for continuing legal education
courses regarding commercial and residential evictions and landlord/tenant law. He is listed by Super Lawyers as a "Rising
Star" in New England.
Before entering private practice, Steve served a Judicial Clerkship with the Honorable Paul L. Rudman of the Maine Supreme
Judicial Court.
He earned his law degree from Boston University School of Law in 1998, where he received a Concentration in Intellectual
Property, and where he was an Edward F. Hennessey Scholar and a Third-Year Editor of the American Journal of Law &
Medicine, as well as Vice President of the Communications, Entertainment & Sports Law Association. While in law school,
he served a Judicial Internship with the Honorable John C. Cratsley of the Massachusetts Superior Court. Steve earned his
Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Maine in 1995, where he graduated summa cum laude, with High
Honors, was a Kershner Scholar and a recipient of the Steve Grady Writing Prize, and served as President of the Sigma Tau
Delta English Honor Society, Vice President of the Senior Skull Honor Society, Director of Academic Affairs for Delta Tau
Delta Fraternity, and member of the Phi Kappa Phi Interdisciplinary Honor Society. His undergraduate study program
included a Concentration in Creative Writing and an Interdisciplinary Course Concentration in Legal Studies, in addition to the
Honors Program.
Steve is a member of the American Bar Association, the Maine State Bar Association, the Cumberland County Bar Association, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the ABA Forum on Entertainment & Sports
Industries, and the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law. He has served on the Board of Governors of the Maine State
Bar Association, and previously served as Director and Chair of the Governing Council of that organization's New Lawyer's
Section. He is a General Committee Member of the Cumberland Bar Association. He is a member of the Greater Portland
Chambers of Commerce. He is Vice President of the Maine Jazz Alliance, and also serves on the Board of Directors of Junior
Achievement of Maine, Incorporated. He is a member of Athletes & Executives, Inc. Steve has enjoyed playing guitar for
almost thirty years, and has been involved with a number of bands in various genres of music, as well as a classical guitar
ensemble. He lives in Portland, Maine with his wife and their son and two daughters.
